Day 9
Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga & Batwa Cultural Encounter
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Rushaga sector offices of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, where rangers provide a full briefing before you begin your gorilla trekking expedition. In small groups, you’ll set off with your guides into the dense, emerald-green Bwindi Forest, a sanctuary of extraordinary biodiversity.
The trek usually takes three to four hours, and along the way you may encounter remarkable wildlife found only in this part of the world. Keep watch for forest hogs, elusive forest elephants, and rare bongo antelope, as well as primates such as mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, white-and-black colobus monkeys, and even chimpanzees. Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting some of Bwindi’s endemic species.
Once you locate a gorilla family, you’ll enjoy up to one magical hour of observation, watching as they forage, groom, and interact. Their behavior—strikingly close to our own—offers an intimate and humbling window into their world. Photography and video are welcome, ensuring memories to last a lifetime.
Return to your lodge for lunch, then in the afternoon immerse yourself in the Batwa Community Experience. Walk in the footsteps of the Batwa forest dwellers, learning their traditional ways of life through music, dance, storytelling, and hands-on activities—a profound cultural exchange that highlights both resilience and heritage.
By evening, transfer to Arcadia Cottages, Lake Bunyonyi, where rustic charm blends with panoramic views of Uganda’s most scenic lake. Dine overlooking the water as the sun sets across the misty highlands
