Sunday - Paro

Welcome to Bhutan! Your detailed itinerary sounds like a fantastic way to start your journey in this beautiful country.

Let me provide you with a brief overview of what you can expect during your first day: Upon your arrival, your friendly tour guide will be waiting for you at the exit doors of the airport, holding a plaque written Seek and Savor. This greeting will mark the beginning of never to be forgotten journey. You will transfer to check-in in the hotel and take a rest.

After a rest, and the arrival of the remainder of the group, you will visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, believed to have been built in the 7th century. This temple holds significant historical and cultural importance, and you’ll have the opportunity to explore its grounds.

Following your visits to the Kyichu Lhakhang, you’ll enjoy an early lunch to refuel.

After Lunch visit the Iconic Paro Dzong and National Museum of Bhutan, which is said to be one of most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan, which look like mini Patola Palace in Tibet.

Monday - Paro

The much-anticipated day of your visit to Taktsang Monastery, often referred to as the “Tiger’s Nest,” has arrived. Here’s a detailed look at your day’s schedule:

After a restful night’s sleep and a satisfying breakfast, you’ll be all set for the adventure ahead. Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for the hike.

Your journey begins as you make your way to the base of the Taktsang hike. This iconic monastery is perched dramatically on a cliff, and reaching it involves a rewarding hike. For those who prefer, there’s an option to skip visiting the Temple and hike above tiger nest for the better view of the temple and valley. The stunning natural beauty surrounding you makes the journey memorable.

Taktsang Monastery is a significant site in Bhutan, and its history is intertwined with Guru

Rinpoche’s legendary flight on a tigress to subdue local demons. The monastery, clinging to a rock cliff at over 800 meters above the valley floor, is a remarkable sight. The monastery was damaged by fire in 1998 but has been meticulously restored to its original condition and consecrated by the 4th King in 2005.

After descending from the monastery, you’ll enjoy lunch at the Taktsang cafeteria. This spot offers a stunning view of the monastery, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere for your meal.

After the hike, we will enjoy a traditional hot stone bath (INCLUDED) and the local hospitality of our hosts who will serve up a sumptuous Bhutanese dinner at one of the friendly homestays in the Paro valley.

Tuesday - Paro to Thimphu (1.5-hour drive)

Your second day in Bhutan seems like another day full of exploration, cultural immersion, and natural beauty. Let’s delve into the details of your itinerary for the day:

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to the capital city of Thimphu. The drive itself will be a pleasant experience as you follow the Paa Chhu river, taking in the picturesque surroundings.

Once we are in Thimphu, you’ll head to the iconic Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuenselphodrang. This monumental statue of the Buddha stands as a symbol of Bhutan’s spiritual heritage. You’ll have the opportunity to enter the statue, explore its interior filled with smaller replica statues, and offer prayers if you wish. The panoramic view of Thimphu valley from this vantage point is breathtaking.

After Lunch, visit Takin Preservation center to witness Bhutan’s national animal, one of the weirdest looking animals.

While in Thimphu, step into the world of Bhutan’s ancient papermaking tradition with a visit to a local handmade paper factory, such as the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory. “Jungshi” means “natural”, and that’s exactly what you’ll experience — paper made entirely from Daphne bark, harvested sustainably from Bhutan’s forests.

During your visit, you’ll witness the entire process — from soaking and boiling the bark, to pulping, layering, pressing, and drying the sheets in the sun. Each step is done by hand, using traditional tools and techniques passed down through generations

Embark on a short hike from the monastic school gate to Wangduetse temple. This historic temple, built in 1567 and restored in 1750, carries its own significance and charm. The hike will lead you through blue pine forests, rose shrubs, and baby oak trees. The return journey will offer a different path to enjoy.

With ample time to explore the city, Thimphu’s streets offer a unique atmosphere, visit places like the main Post Office and bustling vegetable market of Bhutan. You may even have a personalized stamp made for you at the post office, with your photo on it !

Thursday - Punakha to Phobjikha (2.5-hour drive)

Beautiful Gangtey Monastery & nature trail hike (easy)

Heading eastward, you’ll make your way to the Gangtey Valley, also known as Phobjikha Valley. This glacial valley holds significant natural beauty and cultural importance. It’s a destination renowned for its connection to the black-necked cranes that arrive from the Tibetan plateau during the winter months.

Gangtey Valley is more than just a scenic spot; it’s a place of spiritual significance and a haven for the black-necked cranes. These cranes are considered symbols of blessings and good harvests by the locals. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with this cultural belief as you explore the valley.

During your time in Gangtey Valley, you’ll visit Gangtey Monastery, a 17th-century marvel. This monastery is home to the revered Nyingma Buddhist master, Gangtey Tulku. As you wander around the monastery’s grounds, you’ll have the chance to interact with monks and take in the panoramic views of the Phobjikha valley from this elevated vantage point.

In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a relaxed 2.5-hour hike along the Gangtey nature trail. This hike will allow you to appreciate the valley’s natural beauty up close while enjoying a leisurely walk through its picturesque landscapes.

Friday - Phobjikha to Bumthang (5 hours)

Scenic drive and stop at few sights

Today will be a driving day, so you’ll start early to make the most of it. As you travel towards Bumthang via Trongsa, keep an eye out for the grey langur, one of the fascinating primate species found in Bhutan. The natural beauty and occasional wildlife sightings make the journey enjoyable and memorable.

Enroute to Bumthang we will stop at beautiful Chendebji chorten, further we will drive till Trongsa.
Before reaching Trongsa, you’ll make a stop for a coffee at Drukwilling Café. This café offers a stunning view, positioned at the base of a waterfall. It’s a perfect spot to stretch your legs and refresh. The drive will take you through the town of Trongsa, where you’ll catch sight of the impressive Trongsa Dzong. This dzong, perched across a deep canyon, holds historical significance as the ancestral home of Bhutan’s ruling dynasty.

After lunch, your journey continues towards Bumthang as you cross the Pele La pass (3,420m) and the Black Mountain range. Bumthang’s picturesque valley, with its lush meadows, barley fields, and apple orchards, is often compared to Switzerland due to its serene beauty.

During your time in Bumthang, you’ll visit Tamshing, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, built in the 15th century by great Buddhist master Pema Lingpa.

Saturday - Bumthang- Tang valley day excursion (1.5 hours)

Excursion to a Sacred Lake and an ancient palace

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a journey to the Tang Valley, one of the four valleys within the Bumthang region. This valley holds a wealth of cultural and natural treasures waiting to be discovered.

In the Tang Valley, you’ll visit Mebartsho, a revered lake with a fascinating legend. This lake is believed to be one of the holiest in Bhutan. The story of Pema Lingpa’s dive with a burning butter lamp to retrieve Guru Rinpoche’s hidden treasures adds a mystical dimension to this site.

Your exploration continues as you visit Tang Nunnery, one of the biggest nunneries in Bhutan. This is an opportunity to connect with the spiritual side of Bhutan and learn about the role of Buddhism in the lives of its people.

You’ll then visit the Ugyen Choling palace, which houses a museum offering insights into traditional rural life in Bhutan. This privately owned palace and museum provide a window into the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

Your journey takes you to a sheep farm that offers sweeping views across the Bumthang region. This stop allows you to appreciate the picturesque landscapes and perhaps interact with the local farming community.

As the day draws to a close, you’ll arrive back in Jakar. Just in time, you’ll visit the Red Panda Brewery, where you’ll have the opportunity to see how the famous Red Panda beer is made. You can also enjoy a refreshing drink or two, adding a local touch to your exploration. While in we are there take a flavorful detour to visit the famous Cheese Factory, two of the valley’s most beloved local institutions. These small-scale enterprises reflect Bhutan’s slow food movement and commitment to quality, handcrafted products.

Later in the afternoon, you’ll experience the true taste of Bhutan with an authentic cooking lesson hosted by a local farmer at their traditional farmhouse. Surrounded by organic kitchen gardens and the peaceful rhythm of rural life, you’ll learn how to prepare classic Bhutanese dishes using fresh, homegrown ingredients

Sunday - Bumthang to Paro (30 mins flight)

Scenic flight back to Paro

Once we are in Paro, from above the museum, we will take a short 1.5-hour leisurely hike, known as the Zurik trail, which leads to a stunning view of Paro dzong, the airport and the whole of Paro valley and township. Our driver will be waiting to pick us up at the end of the airport.

After our hike, we’ll drive down to a beautiful riverside location for a picnic lunch. Surrounded by pristine nature, flowing water, and fresh alpine air, you’ll enjoy a relaxing meal with Bhutanese dishes, accompanied by local wine and beer. It’s a perfect pause in the day — simple, scenic, and serene.

After lunch, we invite you to try your hand at archery, Bhutan’s beloved national sport. Whether you’re a beginner or a natural sharpshooter, this fun and engaging session offers great laughs, friendly competition, and a deeper connection to Bhutanese culture.

Monday - Paro (2 hours’ drive)

sky burial hike, nunnery & cliff face monastery

Today we will drive to the pass between the Paro and Haa valleys which is at an altitude of 4000 metres. From this windswept location you will be able to experience stunning views of the Himalayas and the Haa valley.

From the drop off point we will hike to a sky burial site (3 hours round trip). In Bhutan the method of sky burial is used for children under the age of 8 years old. As per the local Buddhist customs they should not be cremated. Once reaching the site we will descend to Kila nunnery where you will be able to mingle with the nuns. At Kila Nunnery, you’ll be warmly welcomed by the resident nuns and invited to take part in a butter lamp offering ceremony — a sacred ritual in Bhutanese Buddhism that symbolizes the dispersal of darkness and the illumination of wisdom. This peaceful and intimate experience offers a rare chance for quiet reflection in one of Bhutan’s most serene and spiritually rich monastic settings.

From Kila nunnery, we’re going on a picnic lunch! It’ll be in a super peaceful spot, surrounded by old forest. we’ll take a break in a serene, shaded clearing amidst the ancient forest, where a delightful picnic lunch awaits. Enjoy locally prepared dishes, accompanied by Bhutanese wine and beer, as you relax in nature’s quiet embrace — a perfect moment to soak in the mountain air and recharge.

After Lunch we will drive to Dzongdrakha Lhakhang which is a short walk from the roadside. The Lhakhang’s location is stunning and is known as the second Taktsang as it is also built into the cliff face.

Later during the day will enjoy free time to roam around Paro town which offers good shopping for traditional jewellery and handicrafts and houses a few quaint cafes serving locally roasted coffee.
